Canada: ‘Almost one in three’ ICU patients, over 60, die from COVID-19

Frank Buckley was 82 and in good health when he tested positive for Covid-19 on Dec. 23. A week later, he was dead. Buckley joined the growing number of Canadian seniors who have died as a result of COVID-19 over the past two years. More than 15,000 people over 60 have died from the virus, and those 80 and older represent nearly half of all Covid-19 deaths in Canada. About 30 per cent of patients over 60 who require intensive care for Covid-19 die, a rate that has remained largely unchanged throughout the pandemic. .
