Rajnath Oka: Maternity Child Care Leave for Women Soldiers of All Ranks

NEW DELHI: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday approved a major welfare measure for women soldiers by granting them maternity child care leave for all ranks. The sanction for such leaves will be admissible to regular women officers, Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs), and Other Ranks (OR) for the first two surviving children. “The Maternity Child Care Leave for women soldiers of all ranks once approved and issued, will be a major welfare measure for them. It will have a long-term positive impact on the recruitment and retention of women in the Armed Forces as well as their morale,” the Defence Ministry said in a statement. According to officials, the maternity leave of 180 days will comprise 90 days of pre-natal confinement including any period of hospitalisation and 90 days of post-natal recovery. Leaves of up to 45 days can be availed in multiples by the women soldiers, before and after their maternity leave, on production of a medical certificate. .
